The coolest addition in my opinion is the URL which sees the racers break into a local speedway track to really test out their rides in a proper and official racing environment. StreetX is kind of like a nastier Drift mode, where four cars trade paint with each other in a very tight, controlled course. New to this title are the StreetX, Downhill Drift, and Underground Racing League modes of play, while the original Circuit, Sprint, Drag and Drift modes still remain. You'll need to buy a stock ride in the early days and go out there and win different types of street races to progress. There's literally so many things to see and do that it's easy to become sidetracked. The idea of the game is to start out at the bottom of the street racing league and slowly win races, respect, and money in order to work your way to the top. A nice GPS satellite system can also be employed if you get completely lost which creates a non-subtle directional arrow on the screen, pointing you to your next selectable goal. She'll take you under her wing as you attempt to rise through the underground ranks of the city's racing scene, so pay attention when she speaks. Luckily, from the get-go, your resident hot chick and mentor - Rachel - (played by Brooke Burke) keeps you on track via a Cingular Wireless-sponsored SMS messaging system. But on the flipside, the huge scope of the city can be rather daunting at first. It's definitely one of the coolest racing environments of recent times, and makes the game feel more real than the original. There's the cool light-blurring effects, weather components, and gorgeous architecture to see (and crash into) while on your travels.

The EA Canada team has crafted an incredibly detailed set of environments that look more like a higher-end PC game - in terms of visuals - than a regular console title. Bayview is an amazingly good-looking place. You'll learn where the racing hotspots are quickly, but unlike the preview title, you'll also need to learn the locations of body shops, performance shops, and garages in order to get the most out of the stellar customization system. Split into five individual neighborhoods, Bayview spans a whopping 125 miles of road space, all of which is interconnected with its own freeway system. This huge, sprawling place called Bayview is an impressive piece of gaming design. The first noticeable addition to the game is the main city landscape. There are some big changes in terms of gameplay modes, environments, and car tuning, but the driving component remains just as good and fun as its predecessor. While the final game isn't penciled to ship until the middle of November, I've been cruising with a pretty much complete build of NFSU2 for the past few days, and so far, the game's career mode and online pimped-out play should offer even more than before. Not content with leaving things status quo, EA's second attempt at the exciting world of underground street car racing is shaping up, and sure to up the ante even further.
